Whilst trying to expand and develop my knowledge of practitioners and textile designers, particularly printers and weavers as this is my area of specialism, I came across an incredible artist called Maryanne Moodie. She began weaving as a creative outlet in 2010 and has since completed commissions, collections and projects for commercial and private clients.
At this moment in time, I don't think my route of preference is similar to how Moodie works, however what initially caught my eye with her work, was her confidence to experiment with colour. She not only plays with creating different shapes and textures within her weaves, but has taught me to not be as cautious when choosing my yarn colours and colour palette for my work-I need to push myself.

RHIANNA ELLINGTON
A print designer I've also recently discovered is Rhianna Ellington. As a graduate from Leeds College of Art, her designs are inspired by colour and contrast, and the digital manipulation of natural history and botanics have featured heavily in her recent work.

I think what I appreciate with Ellington's work is the uniqueness of her designs and products. I love the combination between the selection of photographs used to create the print, and the vibrant colours chosen. She's helped me realise that I don't always have to keep my work monochromatic or play it safe if I do introduce colours.
After visiting the Manchester School of Art Degree Show in June, I was massively inspired by the work and blown away by the variety within the Textiles in Practice exhibition. By the time that I left, I was already excited to start the new term and experiment with the work that I could produce.
BETHANY SMITH
Bethany Smith was an artist that caught my eye in particular. As a creative practitioner specialising in Woven design, her work was drawn from exploring hidden qualities and beauty present in decay.

I love the delicacy of the weaves and subtlety of the colour palette, however most of all I love the printed design effect that is within the work as well. This is an aspect of textiles that really interests me and I would like to use this year ahead to further develop my skills and knowledge of the technique.
