I wanted to focus a lot of my time, this week, on developing my sketchbook and drawings. I feel at the moment that my sketches have moved on significantly from my initial research and I have honed in much more on the idea of studying different aspects of the brain.
When creating the drawing shown below, although I mostly took inspiration from brain neurons, I did look over my past 'journey' pieces of work and consider the shapes within some of those as well. I'm really enjoying working with fine liners and producing simple line drawings. It's definitely a new concept for me; being somebody who has done a lot of work focused on textures and surface, I'm enjoying trying something that is completely different and out of my comfort zone.
This week was also our first introduction into working on the machines and although I've used sewing machines during my Foundation Year, I was quite clearly mistaken when I thought I knew everything there was to know about them! We were taught how to use two different types of feet (normal foot and the cording foot) and then allowed to experiment on different fabrics with them. I chose to stick to the given stripy fabric, just so that I was able to focus on sewing in a straight line and also play around with the different stitches and pattern making.
