Intentions - Four

'Bold brights and clashing prints make a refreshing change from traditional whites and neutrals.'

Whilst reading the November issue of Elle Decoration, I discovered an article titled 'Sleep Patterns'. I've known for a long time that my designs and products will be aimed at interiors however I have struggled with the vast quantity of colour and pattern within my work, and visualising it for a particular customer or brand.
This article opened my eyes. It taught me to encourage the use of bold brights and clashing prints, and embrace the amount of ideas that I have chosen to include in my collection.
I'm now working towards producing fabrics which can be used within the family home, whether it be as a cushion, curtain or even furnish an entire sofa.

During my week on the loom, I've also spent time working with satin and sateen designs, which is an area that I have misunderstood in the past. I think this is the best way to have blocks of colour in my weave, without it being just plain weave so that the colour is much deeper.
I've also brought my ideas around Ikat and dip dye back into my work, and created a pattern using 'combed cotton in smoke' and 'mercerised cotton in cream', to produce an effect similar to dying the yarns.

I'm really proud of the balance that I achieved, between a design that resembles an Adinkra symbol and the dip dye-esque colour combination.
