This week I learned the significant difference between plain weave and satin/sateen. I've always been aware of how each one looks as a woven fabric, however it wasn't until now that I fully realised the importance for achieving certain depth of colours and contrast between stripes/blocks.
By using satin and sateen in my designs, I am able to create the richness of colour, as well as the simplicity from just blocks rather than any weft figuring.

Since the last work I produced on Photoshop, I have spent a long time considering my weft colours and what would best compliment for warp. We are able to use up to 8 weft colours, however I have chosen to work with 7 as I feel that there is already a lot going on in my warp. Four of the colours are the same as yarns in my warp, but I introduced 3 other shades to create exciting 'pops' within the samples.

I'm really pleased with how my sample design are turning out as well! I've put a lot of thought into the composition of the colours and the proportions against the original piece, and I think both correlate well.
I always love watching my designs come to life and in retrospect, it's great to compare the original design with the final sample.
