Locating - Live Brief - Week Three

This week I wanted to spend time choosing which collection I would be creating my weave designs for, and I settled on the large/small silk square that were a limited edition to celebrate the company turning 20 years old. I think what appealed to me the most about this range was the exceptional amount of colours within the scarves and range of stripes, blocks and layout. I love the variation between designs, yet the similarities to bring them all together as a collection. I hope to produce pieces like this myself; I want each sample to be different in both colour and design, yet work well when together as a range.
I've also chosen my final design and layout for my warp, threaded up my loom and started to weave. It's taken me a bit of time to get used to using a Texel, as I'm not used to programming my structures without Scotweave, however after a bit of practice, I'm starting to really enjoy it, and I even think I prefer it to the other looms.

I've also discovered that it makes things considerably easier if I plan out my sample designs on Photoshop in the evening, so that I'm ready to weave it the next day. The piece below was the first sample I created and I don't feel that it expresses my painting fully. I think the proportions are incorrect and it doesn't relate to Warhol's processes or style as an artist. Due to this, I have decided that my designs will all be repeated patterns. I want to keep the chaos within the pieces, but I think the order will represent the repetition of the Chairman Mao prints. I also want to spend a long time considering the composition and proportions of the colours, so I can achieve what I envisage, to the best of my ability.
