Margo Selby Internship - Week Two

Week two and we have new interns starting, which suddenly makes me the head intern - scary as I still don't quite feel like I know what I'm doing!?

This week has been a lot busier than last, therefore I've had to manage my time well and make sure everything got done.

The week started off with a production order for the lady who produces the cushions...this meant 38 metres of fabric needed to be measured out! As simple as this sounds, it's another skill I've learned from a member of the team, working in the textiles industry and it's something I will remember in years to come. I'm sure it will come in useful one day!

We also had some bad news this week. A few months ago Margo Selby collaborated with Selvedge magazine to produce 400 lavender bags as a free gift - for new subscribers - in return of publicity.  This week however, the said lavender bags were returned and Selvedge have requested another 400 to be made, but smaller. SO FRUSTRATING!!

So a lot of my week has been spent in front of the sewing machine, creating lavender bag after lavender bag....after lavender bag! On the positive side, it has massively increased my sewing ability, which I was starting to lose, from the lack of using a machine! It's also been a great way to learn all the fabrics and study the designs - this will be huge help during my own project, when I come to creating a collection. I'm starting to feel like I know the concepts and designs behind the fabrics much better now.

This week has been a lot more enjoyable than the first. It's been busy, so I've had to make sure I stay on top of the jobs, but it's made the days fly by! I'm getting used to the routine of packaging CSM orders before lunch, sample/postal orders in the afternoon, visiting the post office at 4.30 and then completing the dispatch book, for the day. It's a tiring day, but an incredible experience - I can't believe how much I'm learning.

REMEMBER:
-Transglobal is the international version of CSM (UPS)
-Fabric stock room lay out
