Sketchbook development and samples

At this point in my work, I wanted to move away slightly from just using fluid lines and instead experiment with also including straight lines, in my sketches too. This is a drawing of a branch from a Pulmonary Nerve, which I created using a simple black fine liner. I really like the variation of depth within the image that the overlapping of lines has created.

We were also shown how to 'pin-tuck with double needles' this week. I found this a great way to respond to my line drawings as it enabled me to not only using different line-based stitches, but also create more of an embossed effect, so I could use to add emphasis to certain aspects of my work.

The piece below was more of an experiment with layering fabrics and how the stitching would look both above and below the material. I do like this sample, however it's not an idea I want to further develop within this project.

I then wanted to give one of my samples more of a worn and textural effect, so by rubbing away sections of my work and removing layers of the white organdie, I was able to reveal the contrasting, deep black velvet beneath. I love the fragments of fabric that have been left behind, that almost create continuous line drawings themselves.
